How it started

An idea that took root in Colorado and Virginia.

We wanted to start a business together. With Lee in Colorado as fall approached and Brendan in Virginia, the idea took root in two places, shaped by the outdoors we both love.

Falling into Fall brings our professional experience and personal interests together: maps, weather, data, and a reason to get outside.

The people behind the forecast

We’re Lee Driggers and Brendan O’Connor, the co-founders behind the site and its foliage forecast model. We bring extensive experience in digital marketing and building websites, alongside data engineering and a shared love of the outdoors.

What we’re building

A useful forecast, with its evidence in view.

We develop our own foliage forecast model to estimate when color may peak at each destination. The maps and forecasts turn that work into practical guidance for choosing a place and a time to visit.

The model is an estimate of a changing season. We explain how it works, check its predictions against observations, and show where the evidence is limited.
